One of the best things I’ve read in months is The Dead Zoo Gang, a narrative nonfiction piece that ran earlier this year on The Atavist. This kind of journalism has it all: an important subject, terrific reporting, first-rate storytelling. So I was thrilled to learn that a new source for this breed of literary journalism has arrived. A couple of Canadian journalists have launched Nonvella, which aims to deliver 5,000 to 20,000-word nonfiction stories that engage and entertain. Nonvella books on such subjects as artificial intelligence and our “food-obsessed” culture can be downloaded to your e-reader. It’s an exciting endeavor, and I wish the Nonvella team the best of luck.
