De-extinction: science fiction turned fact

The New York Times Magazine has published an incredibly detailed story on de-exinction that breaks down the plan to revive some of the countless species we’ve lost. It’s a complicated, somewhat controversial idea that’s all the more worthy of consideration in the context of “The Sixth Extinction“, which author Elizabeth Kolbert explores in her new book by the same name. According to some estimates, the current rate of extinction could be up to 140,000 species per year. From where I’m sitting, both the article and the book are must-reads.
